No, Phil Cuzzi wasn't working home plate tonight, but he let it get to this last night by lofting his gayard friend Tony La Russa a softball 'warning.' It's tough to challenge La Russa's credentials as a MLB manager, but he sure is a douche bag. Face the facts, La Russa has Cuzzi in his back pocket and by constantly being able to drill Brewers hitters and be issued warnings, the Brewers were unable to retaliate without saving their pitcher automatically head to the showers.
Sad but true, Dale Sveum is officially a dumber manager than Ned Yost. No matter where you stand on the decision to plunk Pujols with a McClung heater, Turnbow made matters worse and then they turned to Shouse against two righties. Sveum could have (and should have) hooked Turnbow immediately after there were runners on first and second, or at the least, when he walked the bases full, but he left him in and let Pujols score.
Nobody would be bitching about if plunking a guy to put a runner on base was boneheaded or not had Sveum used whatever brain he has left and gone to Cordero for the final out or two of the 8th inning.
Sigh, what little hope was left is all but done now. As usual, Tom Haurdicourt of the JS has some great blog entries with plenty of banter for you to read here.
