OC Friday Morning Hangover: The Prompisode

I think I'm going to start another blog titled "The Orange County Beat" because I just realized that basically all of my posts deal very little with sports and a lot with this show. We'll see how that shakes out. But our OC faithful finally decided to have themselves a prom! Unless I've miscalculated, they are seniors now and should be getting ready to graduate. But I guess that's the beauty of TV, a second year of junior year for the stars and nobody gets called a super senior later.

I was partly correct about how prom would pan out. The O. Sea saw Summer let the boys decide who would take her, and it turned out to be Zach. But he didn't technically win. Enter George Lucas, to meet with one of the two comics geeks on the same night of the prom. Zach and Seth both wanted to go with Summer, but they both wanted to meet George Lucas. A coin flip to determine who does what later and Zach got to escort the girl while Cohen got to ask about light sabers. Problem being Zach didn't really want to be with Summer and Cohen didn't really want to be with Lucas. Zach leaves prom and Cohen arrives to find Summer standing alone on stage as Prom Queen with no King (it was Zach). As predicted, Seth produced a very Coheny speech which won over Summer all over again. I'll proclaim it proudly, unless something drastically goes south in the finale next week, the lovable two will enter the offseason together.

Caleb died. I first now realized I should have probably put this paragraph first. But it was from a natural heart attack and not a Julie induced pain killer overdose. She actually thought better of it. Of course Caleb dying didn't help Kirsten struggling effort to stop drinking. Telling Sandy she'll rid the house of all booze only to have him find a flask of vodka in her purse and then have her old man pass won't help. The episode concluded with Kirsten and Sandy exchanging verbals about her problem, then finding out about Cal and Kirsten snatching her flask and walking off. Maybe she was walking to a Betty Ford clinic. Hey, even Billy Joel gave it a try.

The plot involves Mr. Ryan Atwood and his quest to discover what was going on between Marissa and Trey. Instead of going too in depth about it, I'll try to lay it out a different way: He believes Marissa, then he believes Trey, then he runs into Theresa (remember her?) in Chino and she tells him to believe Marissa and he does. I've never seen a classier prom get up than Ryan Atwood in a hooded sweatshirt. Perfect. Oh by the way, Theresa wouldn't let Ryan in the house because her (their) kid was inside. Hmmmmm, a whole season of that one lying dormant like everyone's favorite volcano and now the finale is next week? Why stop shitting on Ryan now?

Buckle up for the finale next week folks and include me in your thoughts. After next week, I'll actually have to start posting about sports again.

QUESTIONS FROM THE COUCH:
1. Do we even know for certain that Theresa's kid is in fact Ryan and not that creepy Eddie guy's?

2. What can Cohen do next week to piss off Summer?

3. Will Carter come back next week because Kirsten's father passed away?

4. If Filzen had become a lights out marimba player as a youth would he have fallen for David Bell and now be applying to be the Philly Phanatic?

5. Will Ryan and Marissa ever truly get back together? I'm beginning to have my doubts.

BOLD FINALE PREDICTIONS:
1. Jimmy Cooper will come back onto the program as a regular starting next week (the preview showed us that) and stay for next season.

2. Marissa will come clean with Ryan about Trey but they will not end the season as a couple.

3. Sandy and Kirsten are this season's couple to end on the outs. I'm not predicting a divorce, but they will not be the happy couple from long ago and there will be serious doubt surrounding them for the OC OS (offseason).

4. The preview of Kirsten flipping out will be directed at Jimmy, not Sandy.

5. Trey dies.

Hoop Dreams

In my opinion, one of the greatest films ever made is finally released on DVD today. Hoop Dreams was groundbreaking at the time for it's unconventional documentary style and for the way it exploited recruiting of young men and the way young inner city african americans are exploited. It focuses on Aurthur Agee and William Gates. Gates as many of you remember went on to play at Marquette, but knee injuries derailed most of his potential. If you are a basketball, documentary or drama fan by all means go out and buy this movie. To all fans of this movie, rejoice beacause a sequal is being produced as we speak
