Another Slow day...
The Brewers were "pen'd" again last night when for the second straight game thier bullpen couldn't hold the lead. This game was nearly identical to Monday nights game. The Brewers trailed 4-2, they came back and tied it mid way through, only for Mark Grudzielanek have another big game and help put the Cards ahead in the later innings. Hopefully they can snap the skid this afternoon when Ben Sheets takes on Jeff Suppan. Sheets is finally above .500 at 8-7 and is 5-1 since July 1.
In an inevitable move, KNBR in San Francisco fired Larry Krueger after his comments made on Friday calling the Giants "brain dead Carribean hitters" and saying Felipe Alou's brain had turned to "cream of wheat." You knew he was eventually going to get axed for saying that. Should he have said it, no. In my years working in radio I've seen a few people suspended or fired for similar incidents. You just aren't allowed a second chance in media because of how many people the comments reach, and that is the first impression you leave on them. KNBR also fired program manager Bob Agnew, and morning show producer Tony Rhein for their part in playing "funny" sound bytes.
In something we touched on yesterday, it's been 21 years since the Packers have started a rookie at saftey to begin the season, but Nick Collins may get a chance to end that streak. The rookie project has looked so impressive in camp so far, well either that or look who he's competeing against (Mark Roman, Marviel Underwood, Todd Franz and Earl Little) that he will start tomorrow night in thier pre-season opener against the Chargers. I fully expect them to enter the season with Collins and Arturo Freeman entrenched as their starting safteys. Mr. Fabos, would you agree?
Shareef Abdur Rahim is still a Blazer after the proposed sign and trade that would have sent him to New Jersey was voided. It was reported the Abdur Rahim failed his physical. I bet you wish you didn't turn down Bobby Simmon's money from the Bucks right about now, don't ya Reef?
Kenny Rogers had his suspension reduced yesterday by an arbitrator, and Rogers rejoined the team today. All in all he was suspended and lost pay for 13 days instead of 20. Should he have gotten 20, absolutely he should have. He should have gotten 20 more tacked on after the jailhouse outburst. I guess if Rafael Palmeiro is only getting 10 days though, then that has to be why it was reduced. That only speaks to the fact of how ridiculously low and laughable a suspension is for testing positive for steroids.
My wish for season 3 of the O.C. (other than the Super Heel's group)...The return of Tiffany Amber Thiesen (no longer her last name, she was just married and I don't know what the new one is) to network tv. She's been on saved by the bell, countless lifetime tv movies, and 90210, so what's next? Abviously it's gotta be the show oft compared to 90210. She can play Sandy's new love interest after Kirsten dies in a drunk driving accident, or Ryan's girlfriend from Chino (I know shes like 36 now, but c'mon have you seen the plot's on this show) or she could be Jimmy's new wife, do a lesbian angle with Julie Cooper. That might be it, they could meet in the Penn, and become lovers. Or she could be Seth's new love interest after he and Summer have the inevitable break up. If you really want to go all out, have Mark Paul Gosselar appear on the show too to win back Kelly from whoever her new interest is (I'm assuming she'd go by the name of Kelly and Mark would still take Zach.)
Which reminds me, is anyone else disturbed with how Luke's character evolved? He went from bad-ass-jock-tough-guy, to friends with Ryan, to complete retard (a la Steve Sanders) to dude who sleeps with his ex girlfriends mom. That would be like Zach going from his normal character, to a more masculine Screech, to the guy who sleeps with Mrs. Kapowski, or Dylan going from his character, to Steve's, to sleeping with Cindy Walsh.
Anyway, not to turn this into an entire OC Column (ohh yeah, just wait for the NCAA Season Preview) but I do have it on authority (I'm not sure how good) that a major character is leaving the show. That is why I made those predictions Fabos.
Madden is awesome, I already beat Gaddis and he already started bitching. The new passing is weird, but I think it's better than the old style once you get used to it. They have a ton more in-game features, and the create a susperstar is pretty cool.

I totally agree on the Packers safety issue. Funny how we both thought that it would be Underwood and most likely Freeman as starters. Right frame of thinking (a rookie), but wrong rook. What puzzles me is the whole Mark Roman still with the first unit.
When you say you have it on authority that a major character is leaving the show, do you mean you have an inside source or is that just a jazzed up way of saying you have a good feeling?
Lyle Overbay bobble head night this Saturday, I'm just saying. I'm going, funny how I'm currently 0-2 on bobble nights however.
I have a source from Fox that we work with on things. I don't know how much stock I'd put in it though.
